Mel received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from New York University. He is a lifelong resident of New York City, and he currently resides in Manhattan with his wife.

Background & Experience
|
Former Assistant Vice President at HelmsleySpear, Mel Zimmerman was directly responsible for all aspects of commercial leasing. While he has vast experience and expertise in dealing with store leasing, he also excels at office leasing and building sales.
Prior to joining HelmsleySpear more than 20 years ago, Mr. Zimmerman owned and operated the upscale drugstore chain, Concord Chemists. His responsibilities included all aspects of the day-to-day business as well as store lease negotiations and the purchase of commercial buildings for warehouse and investment purposes. Melvin helped to negotiate the divestiture of one of his leaseholds on a major midtown property, as part of an assemblage.
Mr. Zimmerman knows the retail business from both perspectives—as an owner or tenant and as a leasing agent. He was a member of ICSC, and sat on The Store Committee for the Real Estate Board of New York for the last 20 years.

Mr. Zimmerman has worked with numerous national chains and well as European and Asian boutiques looking to open flagship stores in Manhattan. He has worked with a wide range of clients (The Gap, H&R Block, Gucci, The Door Store, 3.1 Phillip Lim and OSKA) and even a major development site on Queens Boulevard in Queens, NY.
